The Sopot Museum is located at the seafront promenade in a historic residence of 1903. It was built for Ernst Claaszen, a merchant from GdaƄsk. The museum has been created to represent Sopot residences from the times of rapid development of the seaside resort. In several parlours on two floors there is a permanent exhibition of furniture and paintings from the period. Temporary exhibitions usually refer to selected institutions and areas of life of the pre-war city.

  • Ground Floor-Basement: restaurant and cloakroom
  • First floor: dining room, veranda, living room with fireplace and boudoir
  • Second floor: exhibition space in former bedrooms

The building was designed by Walter Schulz in 1903. The multistorey building with a steep staircase was equipped with a lift and central heating. From the outside, a varied and repeatedly jagged form of building has been adorned with numerous decorations and turrets. The layout and function of the rooms are typical of bourgeois houses from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Typical for Sopot houses, the veranda served as a winter garden and opened at the view of the nearby beach.

The museum in the building was founded in the year 2001. The interior was gradually reconstructed according to original photographs from the early 20th century.
